On November 7, 2009 Professor
Muhammad Yunus hosted the 1st Global Grameen Meeting in Autostadt/Wolfsburg near Berlin
. The Grameen Global Meeting was an integral part of the series of events
to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall under the motto “Another Wall to Fall.”
The meeting runs
from noon to midnight including an evening dinner and a networking session. Those who are
invited to participate in this upcoming intimate circle with Professor Yunus includes CEOs, board members, sustainability
experts, as directors of social business projects.
The goal of this meeting is to convene the partners and supporters
of the Grameen Social Business movement to share experiences and develop new ideas.
The GGM will support this by:
Exchanging experiences and knowledge among project participants’ field reports, existing social business joint
ventures and other Grameen social business projects, thereby developing the culture of knowledge regarding Grameen social
business.
Fostering intensive networking and discussion of new social business ideas in an intimate circle with
Professor Yunus
Creating a platform for interactions between social business experts and potential partners from
the classical world of business
Announcing Professor Yunus goals for 2015
Committing to reduce poverty
world wide.
Reinforcing the friendship between Professor Yunus and the companies attending
Facilitating
global cooperation
Yunus Centre university partners at this meeting : HEC (Paris), California State University of Channel Islands, Glasgow Calednian University, Asia Institute
of Technology (Bangkok), Kyushu University (Japan), Rikkyo University (Japan). Other universities attending who actively link
to Yunus work on social business : Free University Berlin, and Emory University (Canada). Other universities observing: Hokkaido
University (Japan) and European Business School.
2 Emerging sub-brands of Grameen University Partnering
An element of the Saint James 7 year maps of how the entrepreneurial revolution of microeconomics' free markets will change the sustainabilty of worldwide media involves London's
Social Business networkers in converging on the Sustainability Olympics year of 2012. Our aim to stage the
greatest festival of social businesses. Advance understanding of detailed interactive roles of different types
of global partners in sustainability is critical. Here is our update (Dec 2009) of the different sub-brands
Dr Yunus awards university partners - RSVP info@worldcitizen.tv if you have living script edits to suggest
The main Yunus Centre in Dhaka connects all goodwill being multiplied by university partners of Global Grameen's sustainability research and development.
A few Universities - eg Asian Institute of Technology - are also branded
Yunus Centres. This means they are expected to participate in a wide range of actions including searching out global
social business partners for Grameen and Dr Yunus, cataloguing the social, microeconomic and compound sustainability cases
of leading social businesses around the region, developing the capacity to advise on region's outstanding implementations
and replications of GrameenMicrocredit.
Grameen recognises universities as Institutes of Social Business where they implement Yes We Can social action
teams, and social business entrepreneur experiments into student courses. (see eg chapter 11 of Yunus Social Business book 1). This integrated process empowers community development and sustainability in ways that provide student leadership benchmarks
for universities around the world to visit. California Institute of Social Business is the world's first benchmark and
this is the responsibility of California State University of Channels Isles -the first university in the USA to
be a Yunus Centre Partner. Expect statewide and global participation in CSUCI launch: 26 February 2010.
Creative Labs
are linked to universities where there is an expectation not only of global social business partners being found but that
a client's project implementation work may be charged to the Creative Lab. Germany exhibits a world leading example of
GrameenCreativeLab.
Most Yunus Centre partners are expected to endow at least one chair of social business. For example. Glasgow Caledonian
has endowed the world's first social business chair of health and wellbeing.
Dr Yunus is planting Social Business Funds
around the world. Major funds typically offer social business prize competitions and may forge close links with one or more
Yunus Centre Universities- which may include endowing social business fellowships. Meanwhile Yunus Centre universities are
encouraged to find sponsors of funds of a more local kind including student social business competitions. Whilst not (yet)
a Yunus Centre partner, MIT was one of the first universities to annually stage a Yunus Prize student competition as part of its world leading program of entrpreneurial competition that students are invited to enter
and link businesses to.
The SMBA (Social MBA) resulted from Yunus' first formal university partnership announced
by President Sarkozi during the launch week of the first Yunus book on social business , May 2008. This was appointed at HEC whose staff had been closely linked to what became the first Global
Social Business partnership Grameen Danone. Paris remains the first city outside Dhaka for benchmarking breakthrough
global corporate brand partnerships of Grameen - Danone has been joined by Veolia the leading water utility company and Credit
Agricole. Both Grameen Danone and Grameen Credit Agricole offer benchmark cases of inviting shareholders and other corporate constituencies to help raise social business
funds. In news breaking 15 December 2009: ‘About 20 French companies are planning to invest in social and other businesses abroad. They think that
it will be easy to work in Bangladesh after the installation of a democratically elected government,’ French Minister
Martin Hirsch told reporters on during his three-day visit to Dhaka.
3 Top 10 partnership typologies of
Global Grameen Branding.
Effectively Yunus is searching through any of the world's most highly resourced types of
organisational system - see chapter 1 of yunus social business book 1 - for Grameen to partner in extreme innovation in its
social business system capacity as a grassroots network that knows how to serve life critical needs as economically as humanly
possible and as the world's leading system design of job creation over the last third of a century. As we have seen,
the particular collaboration opportunity for universities is to participate in connecting the missing curriculum of sustainability.
In parallel, the opportunity for corporate brand leaders is to free their global market to fully value sustainability's compound
futures; the opportunity for a charity is to invest in recycling the social business dollar instead of giving away dollars
of aid;
the opportunity of foundations is to create world league tables
of heroic breakthroughs by disciplines and professions with maps of which hemispheres or cultures these breakthroughs first
help to sustain. The opportunity for place leaders include declaration of social busiess zones where laws provide at
least a level playing field for social business system governance, and social business summits become seminal moments
of the 2010s future history.
Some collaborative ways of looking at the types of partner typologies who may most enjoy partnersing global
grameen in celeberating 2010s as decade of Sustainability are represented in research at London Institute of Social Busineess which specialises in media and professional transfromations needed if our first-generation is to convey the gift of sustainability
to our children and grandchildren, and The Association of Social Business Film-makers.
4 The Grameen Nurse Institute may well map out as being the greatest job creation agent in affordable healthcare
our 21st networked world will co-create. Its conceptualistion started at Glasgow Caledonian Univerisity. It is part of Dr
Yunus number 1 new partnering and youth challenge - social business healthcare - since this humanly great economist was promoted
to his cheerleading role of global sustainability leadership by th Nobel Peace Prize of 2006.
